Professional Football Insurance

Football is a tough and demanding game and regardless of a players physical fitness a bad tackle, unfortunate fall or slip can put a player out of action. We witness week in week out the devastating effects this can have on a player who has not arranged appropriate career ending insurance to protect themselves and their families financially.

Accidents are unforeseen and unfortunate but there is something that you can do to assist should you fall foul to a bad tackle.

Professional Sports Insurance

Personal accident cover for professional and semi-professional football players provides financial protection and assistance in the event of serious or career ending injury.

Professional football insurance cover is defined under two main categories;

1. Career ending insurance - Permanent total disablement offering a fixed capital sum in the event of a career ending injury and death cover providing a lump sum payment to your chosen beneficiary in the event of your death.

2. Temporary total disablement which offers a fixed rate weekly loss of earning compensation in the event of a long term temporary injury.

Many players are covered through their clubs for 18 months of injury but may lose out on bonuses and other incentives which a player relies on.

The 'total disablement' element is defined as an injury which prevents a player from playing as they are contracted to.

The premiums are based upon the value of a players contract which is usually around 5 or 6 times the annual salary of a player, however this is dependant upon the individual circumstances of the player. Other factors such as the players age, position played and at what level and with which club are also taken into consideration.

Cover can extend to include:

  • Loss of earnings contribution for partial and temporary total disablement
  • Capital benefits lump sum payments for partial and total disablement
  • Death benefit paid to your chosen beneficiary in the event of your death

We can provide a rough indication of annual premium upon receipt of the following information:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Club
  • League
  • Position
  • Annual salary
  • Sum insured
  • Details of any injuries that have kept the player out of action for more than 2 consecutive games in the last 3 years

Initially we would provide a rough indication and should the client wish to proceed further details concerning their medical history would be collected in order for us to provide a definate quote. The majority of our clients prefer us to work in this way as it gives them an early indication of premium without having to complete any forms.

Our private client managers will handle your professional football insurance accounts discreetly and confidentially and are adept with handling the needs of clients right throughout the football leagues throughout the UK.

Most enquiries are usually handled by a players agent or relatives and as such we are able to build strong relationships with our clients who refer our services on. (any good agent or well advised relative would recommend that their player take out a personal accident policy from signing on).

Professional Football Team Insurance

Cover can be arranged through a club on a group personal accident policy providing cover for an entire team allowing the club piece of mind that in the event of an injury they too can be financially compensated whilst contracted to pay a players wages whilst injured temporarily or permanently. This contingency insurance ensures that replacing a player through injury doesn't become a financial disaster.
