Football Public Liability Insurance

Football liability insurance from £106.00 protection for teams, clubs, the county FA, leagues and match officials in the event of a liability claim. Unaffiliated football clubs and teams may also require football public liability insurance to make use of council and private leisure, training and playing facilities.

Cover can be arranged for individual clubs, teams, County FA's and leagues as a whole. Click here for County FA and league block insurance.

All football teams and football clubs should have adequate Public Liability Insurance. Most County FAs will require evidence of cover in order to affiliate your team within a league, without evidence your team will not be allowed to play until proof of cover is produced. Similarly should your team hire facilities such as school or leisure centre playing fields you may be required to provide evidence of your own public liability cover.

So what is Football Public Liability Insurance ?

The football club and its members have a duty of care to avoid causing injury to members of the public or damage to their property through the negligent act of the club and/or its members. Public Liability Insurance provides protection for your club should it be proven negligent or failed to take ‘reasonable care’ to prevent injury to a member of the Public or members of the club or damage to third party property and as such your club be held legally liable. For a claim to be upheld the third party has to prove that the club or its members have been negligent in their duty of care.

You can opt to include member to member liability which means that any registered member of the insured club or voluntary worker, whilst acting in connection with club activities and whilst conforming to club rules and by-laws are covered should the member not be entitled to indemnity under any other policy of insurance.

Public Liability insurance excludes player to player or ‘participant to participant’ incidents that occur during play.

The main focus of the insurance is to provide public liability insurance providing protection for the club or league in the event of a claim brought whereby the club or league had been negligent to prevent injury to a member of the public , members of the club or league or damage to third party property. Compensation and legal costs will be paid to the claimant should the claim be upheld.

Alongside this element we can also provide cover for further liability options such as:

Employers liability insurance
- protection against legal liability in respect of claims made for injuries caused to any employee of the club/ league/ association arising out of and in the course of such employment.
Club officers and committee liability insurance (Directors & Officers Insurance, D&O cover)

- Directors and Officers insurance provides protection against legal liabilities in respect of claims brought against officers, committee members, directors, trustees and those in positions of management for wrongful acts, breach of duty, care and or trust, allegations of health and safety legislation including corporate manslaughter, fraud or dishonesty, discrimination or harrassment, libel or slander.

Professional indemnity insurance

- protection against claims made against the club/ league for negligent acts, errors or ommission, libel, slander, defamation and football coaching advise by persons appropriately qualified in connection with the sport.
